Desert Island Discs: British Invasion Edition

Saturday, July 10, 2021 2:01 PM

In the pre-iPod/iPhone/streaming era, there used to be a program called Desert Island Discs, where the famous guest would pick 10 discs to take to their imaginary desert island as the only music they could listen to, at least until they were rescued. So here’s my list of 1963-66 British Invasion essentials for that imaginary Desert Island…with the added limit of only one disc per artist (otherwise it would be all Beatles):

  1. The Beatles - A Hard Day’s Night (the first R&R record I ever owned)
  2. Rolling Stones - Paint It, Black
  3. The Who - So Sad About Us
  4. Dave Clark Five - Catch Us If You Can
  5. Herman’s Hermits - Listen People
  6. The Kinks - Til The End Of The Day
  7. The Yardbirds - I’m Not Talking
  8. The Hollies - I Can’t Let Go
  9. The Animals - We Gotta Get Out Of This Place
  10. The Zombies - Just Out Of Reach
